The Golestan Palace (Persian: کاخ گلستان), literally the Roseland Palace, is the former royal Qajarcomplex. The oldest of the historic monuments in Tehran, and of UNESCO world heritage status, it was the official palace of the Persian Monarch until the formation of the Islamic Republic. Today it is unfortunately surrounded by very ugly office buildings.
