The Shrine of the Three Kings from the 13th century dominates the center of the Cologne Cathedral choir. It is traditionally believed to hold the remains of the Three Wise Men, whose relics were acquired by Frederick Barbarossa at the conquest of Milan in 1164. It is said to be the largest medieval gold work in Europe (it is however mostly made of silver and only has an outer golden layer).
