Rüdesheim is a town in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis, Hesse, Germany. It is located on the right bank of the Rhine, at the southern entrance to the Lorelei valley.
On the hill above the city you can visit the enormous Niederwalddenkmal or "Gemania" from 1877. The memorial was built after the end of the Franco-Prussian War (July 19, 1870 – May 10, 1871) to comemorate the restoration of the German Empire.
